Rudy Luijters lives and works in Belgium.

If you were to take the functions of landscape architect, cityplanner, designer, writer, botanist, anthropologist, ecologist and gardener, and draw a circle around them, Rudy Luijters would be standing in the centre of it as a visual artist. He practises none of these professions, and yet they make up an integral part of his practice.

For him, being an artist means being linked to a great variety of disciplines. He realises his art through autonomous intervention (or “infiltration”) in the aforementioned fields, and by seeking optimal freedom within them. His work can take on shapes (planting a tree, taking stock of the local flora, building a park, planting a herb garden…) that aren’t always readily identifiable as art.
