Dré Wapenaar has worked on a steadily expanding oeuvre since 1987. His work comprises “tent sculptures” in all shapes and sizes, ranging from Piano Pavilions to a Bike Bridge Pavilion,  from a Tent Village to the Tree Tents that are his most well-known work. His work is shown around the world, from Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Chabot Museum and the Kunsthal in Rotterdam to MASS MoCA in North America and MoMA in New York.

A quote from his website (drewapenaar.com):

“Studio Dré Wapenaar works at the interface of architecture, design and sculpture. Sculpture is the base. Working with sculptures, presented in a three-dimensional context, is dealing with people turning around the work and being confronted with it. In working with tents and pavilions this movement is enlarged towards people turning and twisting around each other as well. Tents, with the universal language they speak, are an excellent means to understand at least something of the chemistry between people.”

“This is the framework my work has entered. It offers the possibility to guide all sorts of developments and to advance. The work has expanded across a range of fields over the years, but it also relates back to earlier stages, becoming intertwined with them.”
