While studying at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, a prestigious art school for applied arts, Armel Barraud developed her own form of bobbin lace. Not with yarn, but with metal thread. This allows her to work on a larger scale.
For her representations of gods, saints, figures, animals, plants and celestial bodies, she draws inspiration from universal stories and motifs that circulate in different cultures. Her work exudes a spiritual cosmology: humans, animals, elements and universe are connected and equally important.
The result is refined and delicate, art that feels earthly and heavenly at the same time.
